Who’s Bad?
Bad Feather, Inc. is a small print and web design studio based in Brooklyn. We develop identity systems, make all kinds of printed materials and build websites. Combining creativity and knowledge with collaborative resources, we approach projects of all sizes in a variety of mediums. We always build on our experiences, like to try new things and and think nothing is impossible. We’re only getting badder.
The Bad Feathers

Heather Marold Thomason
Co-Founder | Design Director | Ma Feather
Heather is a designer, business lady, and the matriarch of Bad Feather. Since 2002 she has worked independently under the studio name HM Projects and has designed for a number of award-winning design studios and advertising agencies in New York City and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Heather has created successful identities and campaigns for the Apollo Theater, The New Mexico Museum Foundation, The Guggenheim Museum and the National Urban League. In 2005 she and Brad teamed up and began to design websites and in 2008, Bad Feather Inc. was born.
In her formative years, Heather trained to be a dancer and at one time studied at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. She no longer performs on stages, but still enjoys wearing costumes and getting down. Check out Heather’s earlier work at hmprojects.com
Brad Thomason
Co-Founder | Development Director | Pa Feather
Brad is a designer and web developer. Prior to teaming up with Heather, he developed multiple micro-sites for Popular Science Magazine’s PopSci.com and CartoonNetwork.com, and created portfolio site platforms for artists and designers. Brad is versed in all things XHTML and CSS, and is handy in animating with Flash and Actionscript. Recently, he’s been digging the open-source CMS applications Wordpress and Drupal, and has seen the light of web-standards and accessibility.
Before moving to New York in 2004, Brad co-founded the artist-in-residence Hueyhaus in the outskirts of Santa Fe, New Mexico. He also spent a couple of years as a High School art teacher.
Kristen Carlisle
Project Manager | Lady About the Studio
Kristen is bad ass. She keeps the studio in line and on track. Her knack for digital strategy began at Condé Nast Digital, where she managed tracking and analytics for web advertising and developed custom advertising projects for online publications. Before joining the Bad Feather team, Kristen was contracted by Google as an Account Strategist, where she learned all of their secrets and now has the inside scoop.
Kristen spent her childhood years moving about Europe and speaks several languages including French and Italian. Her family relocated to the US just in time for her to go to high school in New Jersey. She frequently attends live music shows and loves a good DIY project.
Our Collaborators
We Bad Feathers know you can’t do everything alone if you want to do everything well. Lucky for us, we have lots of talented friends! We collaborate with other designers, programmers and developers, illustrators, photographers and printers whenever the project calls. What that means for our clients is a small, personal, full-service studio with the capacity for bigger, badder projects.
